x_staff | Update

The Professor, Hank and Moira are still working, but I figured I'd share some of the preliminary information so that the staff is in the loop.

Simply put, Jono exploded. He is now a largeish ball of psionic energy floating in what's left of the boiler room. According to Charles, he's still conscious and responsive. He just no longer has a body.

I typed that, and I still had to stop and do a double-take...

He seems to be stable in that form for now. Charles doesn't believe there's any risk of further explosions, but he's not being definitive about much else just yet. Still rather early, I suppose, although I'm sure he and Moira and Hank will have more news for us soon.

Nathan was caught in the explosion and is in the medlab. Apparently it happened during one of their powers-training sessions. I'm not sure just how much information we're going to be able to get out of him - Madelyn was muttering something about a concussion when I checked on him.

I think I'll leave it to Charles to make a more detailed announcement of Jono's condition to the school once he's ready to do that. If you could all just do your best to field any worried kids for now... I think that's about all the rest of us can do at the moment.

Nathan does indeed have a concussion, and he's being a complete doofus and refusing to let Amanda do her magic healing thing. If Moira wasn't so busy, I'd have her shake some sense into him. Aside from apparently losing what little sense he had left, he's fine. Or will be.

No updates on Jono - he's communicating, and seems alert and well for a ball of energy. Hank, Moira and Charles are still with him.

Oh, great. You're keeping an eye on him, yes? I'm suddenly remembering Jean having a concussion years ago. Her powers decided they had a mind of her own.

As for Jono... keep me updated, if there's anything that I need to know?

Two eyes even. And an ear - if I hear shouting again from that end of the medlab, I'm going to be very displeased.

This is one of the perils of what we do here, Haroun. Kids who aren't in control of their mutations do tend to do damage to themselves, others, and the house.

And apparently things like containment, liability minimization, and risk management aren't in the curriculum either.

Believe it or not, I feel bad for the kid. I know a little something about having a maladaptive mutation. We failed him, just like he failed himself.

Why don't you wait until the man's out of the medlab before you start telling him how he should have run his training sessions? I somehow doubt Nathan was doing any of this without consulting with the Professor on a regular basis.

And where the hell do you get off saying that Jono failed himself?

Nathan was working with him - Nathan and the Greek chorus in his head - to rebuild the kid's body. Admirable goal. I really hoped it would work and go well.

Now Jono's doing his best lightbulb impression, Nathan's sprained his brain yet again, and the Askani are unaccessable.

If you have a better read on the situation, I'd _love_ to hear it.

I prefer, when it's an option, to wait for information before having a read on the situation. Funny little habit of mine.

You're not the only other one in the house with a broken mutation, Haroun. The judgemental attitude doesn't look real good on you.

Something went wrong. What that something is I don't know. I'll leave that to Charles to determine. All that matters is that the process went wrong - either Jono lost it or Nathan taught it wrong or magetosphere flux or whatever you want to call it.

Can you answer a question for me? When was the last time the Iso-lab's redundant power supplies were tested? They almost got it today.

But as for the rest - it was stupid and nearly criminally negligent to be going about that attempted reconstruction, or whatever you call it, alone, isolated, and without backup or oversight.

I've been saying it all along. We keep getting _lucky_ that we're dodging bullets each time that kid erupts.

I'm not going to sit back here and discuss therapies and strategies. That's your area, not mine. But I am an engineer, and I have my own maladaptive mutation, and this flying solo with no backup and no spotters and reckless endangerment is just Not The Way To Go. As witnessed by my friend back in his Revolving Medbay Bed. Again.

If that had been you and not him, you'd be dead right now.

And now I am going to go offline and buy more antihistamines. Stupid OTC stuff doesn't work well on me, and somewhere in my room there is cat dander.

You're absolutely right, Haroun, if it had been me I would have been dead. But I guess that's why we bloody well had Nathan do it, you absolute pillock. I know you're not stupid, use you're HEAD for once!

Nathan. Able to shield and a telepath, with the added bonus of the Askani. In the boiler room. Yes, near the back up wires (back up's. Read that carefully, young man.), but also, in hindsight, the best place for this.

If the explosion had been in ANY other room, with people around possibly, it could have been much worse.
