A review of the school field trip policy may be in order.

Pete, when I agreed that the purchase of a minibus for sanctioned student outings would be a good idea, intrinsic to that agreement was the understanding that the minibus would not be used to ferry back to the school several tipsy, undisciplined, projecting teenage minds.

I am sure there are a number of clubs in the area that are either alcohol-free or assiduous in their carding procedures, and I would prefer that the official outings, if they include minors, take place at those establishments.

That would perhaps explain why several of the students were so unsteady on their feet Saturday morning.

Perhaps we are overdue for a class on the effects of alcohol and recreational chemicals on mutant powers?

Note that I am -not- volunteering to teach that class.

I propose a Correlary to Rule #13 wherein one cannot be subject to Rule #13 more than once in a given week.

Yes, I very much remember,. Vividly, even. I believe quite a few of our current students could benefit from the class. I occasionaly wonder if a chapter on caffiene should be added, just as a precaution. The coffee consumption in this school is staggering.

I'm sure a more suitable establishment can be located easily enough. I don't cherish the thought of telling one or two people I could name that liquor is out, but truthfully, I cherish sobriety a lot more. I'm such a stick in the mud, but at least I can still drive at the end of the night.

I'd reccomend somewhere that's alcohol-free, rather than better at carding. I don't think the most strict bar staff in the world could out-sneak some of our club goers.

Is that counting the students with powers that lend themselves to persuasion, or just the ones who are naturally talented at talking people into things?

Both, actually.

Especially those with Speech class.

I believe the only student who falls under the category of "both" is ... unable to access his power at the moment?

Re: ...

[identity profile] x-shinobi.livejournal.com 2004-04-11 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm referring to both the students with gene-given powers of persuasion, and those of us who would have to do it the old fashioned way(s), in this instance.

We have -two-?

I am well aware of Mr. de la Rocha. There is a second?

Telepathy isn't an entirely uncommon mutation, from what I can gather by the sheer number of them here, and at least one of them (Miss St. Croix) is very fond of the clubbing trips.

A good number of the students could do it with their powers, if they thought to, and got creative enough. Most of those on that score, though, are more responsible than that, or are working to become so.

Even then, someone whose powers give no unnatural advantages in that sort of situation (wanting to get ahold of something they shouldn't be able to, in theory) can. The number of underage, normal humans who were at the club Friday, drunk off their rockers, is certainly evidence enough of that.

One doesn't need to be an empath to take advantage of someone, is all. It helps, though.

I do not believe Ms. St. Croix is talented enough to use her gifts in that vein, although I could be wrong. I am not completly familiar with how far she has developed her powers.

A club that does not serve alcohol would at least limit the students to what they could bring with them, and I imagine that most of the bouncers know to look for hidden containers. They -were- when I was that age.

It sometimes seems that half our student body could talk an Eskimo into buying an ice machine if they were so inclined. We are fortunate that most of them don't, or, at least, they don't do so blatently.

She can't right now, to the best of my knowledge, but the theoretical ability is there. Same as it is with several folks here, students or otherwise. I'm mostly babbling about hypotheticals - I blame the late (early?) hour.

If we can find a club that serves smoothies, maybe that would appease them. But I may only be saying this because I like smoothies.

Sweet-talking is a valuable skill to have, but it's one that's very tempting to use irresponsibly, because.. well, power corrupts, and all that rot. Subtlty doesn't really make it okay.. but I'm sure that isn't what you meant.

You know, it's just occured to me that this is the first time you and I have ever really 'talked', such as it is. We should do it again sometime, when I'm less sleepy.

Re: ...

[identity profile] x-storm.livejournal.com 2004-04-12 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Babbling in hypotheticals is as valuable as skill as any other. I remember a few nights of that myself that turned into full-borne discussions on whether or not I could localize weather effects. I owe my ability to fly to a night of pondering hypotheticals.

Smoothies are one of the great gifts of the universe. Peach-mango, to be exact, or orange with dark chocolate chips. Espically orange with chocolate chips.

Communication is a valuable skill, period, sweet-talking or no, and I imagine no more corruptive than any other. Being subtle just makes it more palatable, or perhaps less readily obvious.

I believe when you arrived, I was .. on sabbitical, or it was just before I left. We should indeed talk more.

Re: ...

[identity profile] x-shinobi.livejournal.com 2004-04-12 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Very true. Knowing this, I think, is why I tend to let myself babble once I get started. It's always interesting to see where it takes me.

I am ashamed to admit I have never had an orange and chocolate chip smoothie. I shall remedy this at the first possible opportunity.

Being subtle makes it easier to live with, because if you're subtle, you don't know you're being manipulated. My dad has it down to something of an art form, unsurprisingly. Occasionally drove his assistant to distraction, but then, she always did seem to like me a bit more - or maybe I just hope she did. (Look, I'm babbling again. Obviously due for sleep, here..)

You were away when I arrived, yes. Chat over tea sometime this week, maybe?

We should definitly chat over tea, or smoothies. :)

Not a problem. I thought I'd give 'em a chance not to fuck up before starting to tell 'em where they're going on a Saturday night but they have, so I'll make sure they understand the rules for next time.

[identity profile] x-storm.livejournal.com 2004-04-13 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
While it is perhaps too far past the incident in question to go this route - has anyone considered telling those students who drank that they are -not- going out the next time?

It is, perhaps unfair to restrict those students who did follow the rules for the sake of those who feel it is necessary to thwart them.

Re: ...

[identity profile] x-pete.livejournal.com 2004-04-13 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
They're going to find ways to drink underage no matter what we do. So long as they're discreet about it, and don't cause problems/act like idiots, I'm happy for them to be normal teenagers, although we don't have to tell *them* that, hence the not allowing them to go anywhere that serves booze, next time out.

So, yeah, the thought had occured, but I figure that it's not like any of them got utterly wrecked and started fights, or was sick in the back of the bus, or anything completely stupid, after all, so it doesn't really merit being that harsh, and also, it might encourage their peers to police them a bit better next time. If it happens again, we can look at something harsher directed only at the offenders, although if they keep it at that level they managed the other night, it's going to be hard to tell who's been drinking without either a telepath or a breathalyser, because while I could smell the booze, I couldn't tell you who had and hadn't been drinking with any certainty.

[identity profile] x-pete.livejournal.com 2004-04-13 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Although before I get anyone's hopes up, I should point out that this place was doing that weird thing with the different colour wristbands, and yeah, they all went in with the "underage" bands on. So I suspect it's going to have to be one of the booze free places for next time, because the devious little bastards are obviously far too good at getting other people to buy them drinks.
