How did two students manage to DISAPPEAR out from under you people? Everyone's walking around on pins and needles because apparently two of the latest batch of runaways managed to get themselves in some trouble. Yeah, so everyone agrees the kids around here tend to overreact, but when you've got Chuck's giant mutant brain finder in the basement and the X-Army with the friggin' attack jet in the basement, and you're sitting around with your thumbs up your collective asses?

What? The X-Men only get involved when there's a PR opportunity to be had? No wonder none of these kids trust you.

Look, Cain, just because you're not being informed of what's going on, that doesn't mean nothing's being done. A hammer isn't going to get every job done. We have limitations. No one's ever denied that. We're working around them. Throwing a handful of people _not trained for the situation at hand_ on the Blackbird and going racing off without even a destination to aim for is not going to get Angelo and Amanda back any faster. The people who are best suited to the task are on their way there.

The point being - how did you LET them get into that situation? Look, I ain't going to pretend you can control these kids. And I understand that you can't keep them safe if they go running off on their own - someone needs to tell THEM that.

But letting the jailbait junkie and the hoodlum with the martyr complex go running off on their own and get into trouble - if ANYONE needs to be under house arrest for their own safety, it's the two of them.

Yeah, you've got limitations. Seems all you guys do is react to situations when you ought to be preventing them.

To clarify, Cain, they were not alone. They were in the care of Angelo's mother and Amanda's family-appointed tutor. They would probably have made the same choices if they'd been sitting under this roof, under house arrest. There is a point at which we have to let these kids live their lives and if they choose to ignore all common sense all we can do is pick up the pieces, unless you suggest that we skip that step.

Maybe skipping that step is what's needed. If thse kids know they can get away with all this shit and come home to hugs and candy, what's to stop them? You've had kids drug a good third of the student body, play merry hell with people's emotions, and hell - a group of them drugged a doctor and KIDNAPPED a comatose woman. Near as I can tell, those folks are the "good" kids!

If you aren't going to bother instilling some discipline in these kids, think about it the next time you lose one.

They didn't "disappear", Cain. They went on a trip to stay with one student's mother with parental permission and supervision and they took off on their own without telling anyone or asking for help. Their choice. At that point, they screwed themselves. It's no one here's fault that they didn't have the fucking sense to call someone. They had time to email apologetic letters all over the place but not to say where they were going, what they needed, or to wait for help.

Frankly, you self-righteous, arrogant son-of-a-bitch, you're the one telling the kids to leave if they don't like it here. I'd think you'd be glad to get a couple of them gone. If you have a problem with things, get involved and change them. In the meantime, step back and let other people who actually give a damn about the people involved worry about what's going on.

If they don't like it, damn right they should leave. I know you've all got your recruiting quota to fill, but I'm well aware no one's being held here against their will, except maybe de la Rocha. But it's what's "best for him", right.

And don't presume to lecture me on giving a damn about people. If those were my people out there in the shit, they wouldn't have to worry about being left behind . These kids are fuckups, some of them. But as much as I hate to admit it, some of them believe in this place. I ain't going to pretend I like Espinosa, but the boy put himself in the infirmary protecting YOUR ass last time he was in there.

What? Put himself in the infirmary protecting /me/? For fuck's sake, that's the most laughable thing I've ever heard. We got jumped, he got his ass kicked and then nearly killed me when I tried to haul him out because he was so freaked out about being beaten up /again/. Moreover, I got him out of there and didn't even do more than bruise the jackasses who thought they had an easy target. Don't try and dump guilt crap on me.

If I get told to go, I'll go. I hauled his mother out of the riots in LA last winter, and I'm happy to go in to wherever he's got himself stuck and get him out but it does no one any good if I go racing off on my own and get fucked up too because I didn't know what I was getting into. I'm grown up enough to realize that sometimes, I don't know enough to help, and I cannot do anyone any good if I get halfway there and find out they need me more here.

Don't throw loyalty at me. My conscience is as clean as it gets on that front.

When it comes down to it - Espinosa's as helpless as Ramsey when it comes to defending anyone, but he TRIED. He's got a useless power, and he's only here because if you turn him loose back into the wild, he's going to get himself killed. But then you DO IT ANYWAY. And if he comes back in a body bag because your "skilled professionals" show up too late, let it be on your heads for letting him go when you're supposed to be the people who're teaching him how to survive in the world.

You people let him go back to the environment you had to rescue him from in the first place. And he gets himself in trouble again. And not one of you expected this would happen?

You weren't there, Cain, you don't know shit. He was allowed to go back to LA with reasonable precautions for his safety, which was really not at great risk to begin with or he wouldn't have been allowed to go, and with the approval of his mother. Trouble offered itself to him and he took it. No one can stop that. He knows what to do. He said he'd call, that he would call me, the second that he needed help, and he didn't. Beyond that, I cannot do anything more. What do you want? You can't have it both ways.

Either shit or get off the pot. If Angelo didn't call you, it's probably because he knew you'd talk him out of whatever stupid shit he's off doing. And bullshit "reasonable precautions". He ain't safe, there weren't any precautions.

You don't get it, do you? This is where I live. This is my home. This is where you work. At least, until there's some personal spat that has people heading for the hills. No wonder you've got kids like Paige and Sarah running away - it's what their "role models" do.

Hell, half of you teachers are barely out of school yourself. The law may say you're qualified to teach a class, but look at what these kids are learning. That it's okay to flaunt authority, you'll be forgiven. That you can go run away from your problems, someone will always be coming to save your ass.

You want these kids to listen to you and treat you with some respect? Dammit, give them a REASON to - or just try and avoid them like I do.
